Ryan FryRyan Fry made his Olympic debut at Sochi 2014 as part of the team that won Canada’s third straight Olympic gold medal in men’s curling. In 2013 they won the first Brier title for Northern Ontario since 1985 and went on to win world championship silver. Ryan started curling at age five and enjoys golfing, running and weight training – his favourite motto is simply to “train to be the athlete you want to be”. Ryan’s first official act as a Reach for the Rainbow Ambassador is to address 300+ 1:1 support counsellors as a Keynote Speaker of the 27th Annual Reach for the Rainbow Conference this June 10th at Humber College Lakeshore Campus.

“I am very excited to have been given the opportunity to align myself with such an amazing organization. The positive impact that Reach for the Rainbow has within our community is inspiring. I hope that my contribution will help spread their message of inclusion and aid in their growth moving forward!” said Ryan Fry.

The Conference is a one-day training opportunity which promotes inclusion and the urgent needs of children with disabilities in sport and recreation across Ontario. During the day-long event participants attend four intensive sessions and hands-on workshops on a wide variety of disability related topics for counsellors, camp and community recreational program staff.  Reach for the Rainbow provides practical strategies to support individuals and a fantastic integration toolkit to create rewarding experiences for children with disabilities in integrated environments.

“We are really excited that Ryan has become a part of the Reach for the Rainbow team”, said Executive Director Dawn MacDonald. “As an Olympian, Ryan’s message is always to inspire others to follow their dreams and achieve great things which makes it a great match for us. Our message is one of inclusion and advocacy on behalf of children and young adults with a disability. We do this by integrating them into a world of opportunity.”

As a core support and essential service to over 500 families in over 38 inclusive partner camps and recreational programs across Ontario, Reach for the Rainbow realizes that integrated opportunities allow for a greater quality of life and the ability to effectively engage within a given community.
