REACH HISTORY

Beginning in 1983, with a small group of parents, led by Donna Trella, REACH was founded. The organization was born out of a need by parents with children who were either physically or developmentally disabled to be included and have access to programs the same as typical kids.  In 1987 REACH incorporated and the organization went on to be pioneers in the integration of children and youth with disabilities in recreation programs through inclusive overnight, day and community camp programs throughout Ontario.

Founding member, Donna Trella, was unrelenting in her quest to ensure not only her daughter Dove but all the children in Ontario living with either a physical or developmental disability were accepted and that there was access to opportunities for these children with their peers in their own communities. Donna Trella received the Order of Ontario for her work in the field of disability in 2016.

The organization’s goal was always to improve program outcomes for participants with special needs by integrating the delivery of these inclusive programs and services with easier access for children and youth with disabilities across Ontario, in their own communities.
